Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is also holding the additional charge as Lt. Governor of Puducherry, was chosen for the Top 20 Global Women of Excellence Award for 2020.
The international award is given by the Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force, Illinois, headed by US Congressman Danny K. Davis.
In the congratulatory letter sent to Dr Soundararajan, the jury said that she has been chosen to be honoured as she is an ardent advocate of women’s rights, gender parity, women empowerment and women equality, apart from making a difference to the society through her efforts.
The award will be presented at the 9th Congressional International Women’s Day Gala scheduled to be held at Illinois on March 7.
Dr Soundararajan, who has been serving the public for the last 4 decades, will accept the honour online from Puducherry. Her fight to protect women rights and for gender equality began even when she was in the medical college. She also put in efforts for improving the lives of tribals during her stint in public service.
Others picked for the award include US Vice President Kamala Harris. The jury received nominations from people across the world.
