India Fastest To Administer 100 Million Vaccines In 85 days

On Saturday, India became the fastest country to administer over 10 crore Covid19 vaccines doses in 85 days, surpassing the US and China that accomplished the feat in 102 and 89 days, respectively. India has been officially giving nearly 30 lakh doses daily since April 1.

India could achieve this milestone after it commenced covid19 shots 85 days ago on 16 January this year. The Prime Minister Office tweeted “Strengthening the efforts to ensure a healthy and COVID-19 free India” along with the details.

Now that the vaccine drive has been extended to those above 45 years with provisions at their workplaces (govt and private), it is both pro-active and collaborative taken by the Centre and the State governments in terms of safety.

India also has the lowest fatality rate in the world (1.28%). The nation had granted emergency use authorisation to two COVID-19 vaccines — Pune-based Serum Institute of India’s Covishield and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Ltd’s Covaxin which are currently in use in the vaccination drive.
