Number Game Begins, How Will Vijay Get Another 10 Seats?

Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK Party emerged as the Single Largest Party in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections but is ten seats away from the Magic Figure of 118.

Vijay will get invitation from the Governor to form the Government but he has to win the Floor Test in stipulated time, according to the established procedures.

Vijay has directly criticized both the BJP and the DMK. Now, the question of whether he will seek the support of one of these two parties or go to the other parties is the suspense now.

AICC President Rahul Gandhi called Vijay and both of them spoke for 15 minutes. There were rumors Vijay offered a Pre-Poll alliance to the Congress before the elections but Congress chose to go with its old ally. But now, Congress is reportedly in favor of supporting TVK.

Apart from the BJP, AIADMK, and DMK, other smaller parties have also previously shown enthusiasm for aligning with Vijay.

Among such parties, the VCK (2 seats), CPI (2 seats), CPM (2 seats), and DMDK (1 seat) secured victories as part of the DMK alliance. Additionally, within the NDA alliance, the PMK (4 seats) and AMMK (1 seat) emerged victorious. It remains to be seen whether the TVK will seek their support.

Both Congress and PMK reportedly offered support but sought two Ministries each. Between both the parties, they have nine MLAs, still one short of the Magic number. Congress have five seats and PMK four.

Left Parties – CPM and CPI have two seats each. They have already announced that they will consider supporting if Vijay requests them.

The Problem with taking support from the smaller parties is that all their demands have to be independently addressed and they will be troubling the Government with whims and fancies.

Better option any day is to ally with a party that can give the support of all the ten MLAs. DMK is almost ruled out because of the ideological differences.

And then, there is only AIADMK and the BJP. AIADMK won 47 seats while BJP won just one. Even though the Saffron Party won only one seat, it will call shots in the alliance with its muscle in Delhi.

If Vijay takes the offer of Congress, we may see Amit Shah trying to trouble the Government in one form or the other.

Allying with the BJP/AIADMK is the safest option because TVK will become the ally of the NDA. Modi and Shah will stop looking at Tamil Nadu for sometime and it will give Vijay to have breathing space to get grip on the administration.

But then, allying with the BJP will dent his credibility big time. We know how the Dravida Parties made BJP a villain in the state and anti-Tamil for years.

BJP did not reveal yet if it is interested in supporting TVK. Since 1952, AIADMK ruled the state for seven times and DMK for six times. For the first time, a space is being created in the state for the BJP sooner or later with both the parties struggling.

At this time, helping another Regional Party means removing that vacuum. So, the BJP has to choose between stopping Congress or losing the opportunity in the state.
