Sankranthi 2024: Elections Phase May Impact The Box Office

Sankranti is the biggest festive season for Tollywood, with various films aiming to release during this period, ranging from small-scale productions to pan-Indian projects. Next year, 2024, an exciting lineup of 4-5 big films is expected to hit the screens during the Pongal season. However, the elections might also take place around the same time. It may have an impact on the Tollywood box office.

One of the highly anticipated films is ‘Project K,’ featuring Young Rebel Star Prabhas, directed by Nag Ashwin. This science fiction movie has generated significant buzz. The film’s release is locked for Sankranthi.

Following that, superstar Mahesh Babu and Trivikram’s action entertainer ‘Guntur Kaaram’ is set to release on January 13th, as announced by the makers.

Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ and Shankar’s pan-Indian project ‘Indian 2’ starring Kamal Hasan, are also scheduled to release around the same time.

Additionally, there is a high chance of ‘Pushpa 2’ making its way to the screens during the festive season. Even if it releases in December, it would still be election time.

With this lineup, three or four films are likely to clash with each other during the Sankranti season. Audiences show immense interest in watching these big-ticket films during the festive period.

However, it is essential to note that the Telangana elections are also scheduled for January, with the election commission starting the groundwork. There is a significant possibility that Andhra Pradesh elections might also be held in advance.

If this occurs, the impact of elections on the cinema industry could be substantial. Movies and politics are highly engaging topics in the Telugu states, and with the election fervor gripping the public during the Sankranti period, films may face challenges. It remains to be seen whether the exciting Sankranti season will be affected by the elections or not.
