Chiru Sir.. Remake Sir.. No Sir..

There is a proverb in English ‘Once Bitten Twice Shy’ which literally means that once a person is hurt or failed because of something, he will not take a second chance with it again. This adage is usually followed by our actors because they try to repeat the hit formula as long as they keep succeeding, but once they taste a failure, they will hesitate to revisit the formula.

Megastar Chiranjeevi seems to be adopting this principle now. After making a strong comeback with Khaidi No 150, a remake of Tamil blockbuster Kaththi, Chiranjeevi felt that remakes are a safe bet. Not just Chiranjeevi, even directors and producers believed that remakes can set the cash registers ringing. This is why we usually witness remake films quite often.

Chiru’s love affair with remakes is not a new one. He always had the inclination towards making remake films. This is why the sting of remakes has left a lasting impression on him. But, the shocking result of “Bhola Shankar” served as a resounding lesson, leaving an indelible blot on his career. More than the magnitude of the result of Bholaa Shankar, Chiru’s blind obsession with remakes hurt his fans to the core. They are utterly disappointed with Chiru’s approach towards script selection and other aspects while signing films.

After Bholaa Shankar, Chiru has taken a firm stand on remakes. He has reportedly realised that audiences are no longer patronizing remakes because of the advent of OTT platforms and other digital forms. He is now more cautious while choosing scripts.

During a recent meeting with Chiru, a renowned producer tried to convince him to give the nod for a modified version of Mammootty’s successful Malayalam movie “Bhishma Parvam”. The producer tried to wangle Chiru by saying that it is a tailor-made story for the local audience and also has good potential to score success at the box office.

However, having learned from past mistakes, Chiru declined the offer despite its apparent promise. Keeping in view the box office results of God Father (Lucifer remake) and Bholaa Shankar (Vedhalam remake), Chiru turned extra cautious and vigilant about stories. He might have finally put an end to his affinity towards remakes.
