Upon the release of “RX 100,” his fan base experienced a sudden surge. The movie emerged as one of the standout blockbusters in 2018, quickly garnering significant recognition with just his second film. However, subsequent ventures failed to replicate that success. Films like “Hippie,” “Guna 369,” “90 ML,” “Chavu Kaburu Challaga,” and “Raja Vikramarka” followed one after another, without establishing a solid footing. Even his portrayal as a villain in Nani’s “Gang Leader” was part of a series of disappointments.
While “Ajith Valimai” brought in commercial success, Karthikeya’s role as a villain somewhat diminishes its significance in his career. Consequently, it has been a five-year stretch since Karthikeya last tasted success as a solo hero. “Bedurulanka 2012” has finally filled that gap.
Thankfully, the film managed to break even within its first week due to decent word-of-mouth, despite its modest theatrical business. Initially setting a target of four and a half crores, the movie is poised to continue into the second week with a profit of fifty lakhs. Reports from counter sales suggest a favorable response, particularly in BC centers. The outcome on Friday will largely hinge on Khushi’s influence.
For Karthikeya, the relief of ending the prolonged drought of success is palpable. Notably, “Bedurulanka 2012” faced several delays since April, even undergoing rumored re-shoots. The decision to release it alongside a grand film like “Gandhivadhari Arjuna” appears to have paid off.
Remarkably, “Bedurulanka 2012” outperformed the heavily marketed Kannada dubbed film “Boys Hostel,” which was pitched as a youthful movie. Karthikeya’s countenance, once marked by tension prior to the release, now reflects a more relaxed demeanor in the success meets, signaling a welcomed alleviation of stress.
