Madhavan & Nayanthara Test’s The Patience

Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth. Just these three names are enough to generate interest in a content and make you want to watch the movie. When this comes with the convenience of enjoying it from home on an OTT platform, what more could one ask for? When Netflix promoted “Test,” movie lovers showed interest in it. Initially, the plan was to release the movie in theaters, but due to various reasons and delays, it eventually found its way to digital platforms. Directed by S. Shashikanth, this sports drama with emotional elements garnered hype mainly due to the star cast. However, unfortunately, it ended up disappointing the audience.

Let’s take a closer look. The story revolves around teacher Kumud (Nayanthara) and scientist Saravanan (Madhavan), a married couple who are unable to have children and are trying for surrogacy. Arjun (Siddharth), a star cricketer, struggles to secure a permanent position in the Indian team due to poor form. Unexpected events bring a betting mafia into their lives. A bizarre situation arises when Arjun’s son is kidnapped by Saravanan. This all ties back to a Test match between India and Pakistan. But the big question is: why do such events unfold among these unrelated people? That’s the core of the story.

Although the plot has some potential and could have been interesting, director S. Shashikanth failed to develop a strong narrative. As a result, the scenes come across as emotionally flat, with the whole experience feeling heavy and dragging on. Siddharth, Nayanthara, and Madhavan give decent performances, but when viewed from a content perspective, the movie becomes a “test” for the audience’s patience. The lack of well-developed characters and direction that lacks a clear sense of purpose turns the movie into a farce. If one doesn’t have the patience to sit through such a “test,” it’s hard to bear the experience. In the end, the audience was the one who lost the match.
