Recently, Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap was making headlines for his controversial comments against the Hindi film industry. He also announced his exit from Bollywood and asserted that he would focus on South Indian films. Surprisingly, he now started taking a dig at South Indian films as well. In his recent interview, Anurag criticised the music in Tamil films, saying that Tamil songs lost their originality and feel like English rock band tracks. He said they don’t make sense anymore.
Anurag said, “It’s a recent phenomenon that Tamil has also started competing with Telugu pan-India films because suddenly, Tamil songs are in English. They all feel like some foreign rock band with everybody singing in English. I think this is not a Tamil song. Tamil songs used to be like what we used to borrow in Hindi, from Ilaiyaraja and everyone else. But now, Tamil songs don’t make sense.”
Though Anurag didn’t mention any music director’s name, his statements sparked controversy among Tamil film circles and audiences.
On the career front, Anurag Kashyap shot to fame in Tamil film industry by acting in movies like Leo, Viduthalai Part 2 and Maharaja. He is currently acting in Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit, which is slated for release later this year.
