It’s been just over a month that theatres across the country were given permits to reopen. However, the business is not like before the lockdown times and despite this, there are no new releases in the last 30 days. With the seating capacity is being low, theatres owners and managements are not willing to run the theatres as it would push them into more losses.
In Karnataka, theatres are shut even after the permission to reopen. The theatres management in the state have taken a collective decision to shut the theatres until the pandemic influence comes down in the state. From the sandalwood folks we hear that theatres would be reopened in January 2021 and the industry is also praying that this happens.
But this could happen much before and the Sandalwood stars have started a campaign with the slogan #CelebrateCinemaAgain in a way to appeal to people to watch the movies only in theatres which would eventually provide livelihood to many people not just in theatres but also in industry.
A video of this campaign is shared on Twitter by director Puri Jagannadh and he got emotional by this. Tweeting the video, Puri said, cinema theatre is our mother and prayed that those old days wherein it would have a festival atmosphere at the theatres before the release of a film, should return. This video has gone viral and netizens are also asking the Tollywood industry to make something like this for the audiences.
