Earlier, premiere shows were usually held at midnight or in the early morning hours. These shows were mostly dominated by hardcore fans and youngsters. Because of the odd timings, loud celebrations, and high ticket prices, family audiences generally stayed away from premiere shows.
But things have changed in recent times. Now, many premiere shows are starting at regular timings like 9:30 PM. Since these timings are similar to normal evening shows, family audiences are no longer hesitant to attend premieres, especially if the movie has good buzz and is suitable for all age groups.
The same trend was clearly visible with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s latest film Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu. On Sunday night, paid premiere shows were held across both Telugu states, and theatres were filled with family audiences. In Hyderabad especially, several theatres saw a rare sight, where families dominated the premieres.
In many theatres, the crowd was evenly split. Half were youngsters, while the rest included middle aged people, senior citizens, women, and children. This kind of response at premiere shows is unusual and shows the strong family appeal of the film.
A big part of the credit goes to Chiranjeevi’s image as a family friendly star. The other major credit goes to director Anil Ravipudi. His films are known to strongly connect with family audiences. The response to his previous film last year had already proved this, and once again, families trusted him and turned up in large numbers for the premieres.
Regular moviegoers, who are used to seeing only youth crowds at premiere shows, were surprised to see so many families in theatres. Since the film delivered clean and enjoyable entertainment for its target audience, it received positive talk right from the premieres.
Videos and photos of families enjoying the premiere shows of Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu are now going viral on social media, clearly showing how premiere show culture is changing and how family audiences are becoming a strong part of it.
