Tollywood’s Unusual Trend: Packed Releases or No Releases

Tollywood is going through a strange phase at the box office. Either there will be a flurry of new releases or no releases at all. There seems to be no in between scenario. Not long ago, it was an overcrowded week during the Sankranti season as five notable films jostled to take advantage of the festival window. As expected, it turned out to be lucrative season for trade circles.

Surprisingly, the next couple of weeks were completely dry due to lack of any significant new releases. Only two small films released last Friday, but they didn’t find much traction in audience. After a brief hiatus, box office is going to witness another jam-packed Friday again as a bunch of low budget films are gearing up for release this week.

Though February is considered as an unseason because many prominent movies usually target the much hyped Summer season after Sankranti, numerous small films will test their luck during the intervening period. Starting this Friday, more than half a dozen films are hitting the screens.

Seasoned director Guna Sekhar’s Euphoria is the only film which is carrying decent buzz among all releases. The presence of Dhurandhar fame Sara Arjun is the only selling point for the film. Other movies like Honey, Sri Chidambaram Garu, Barabar Premista, Operation Padma, Yerra Cheera, Garga, Blood Roses and Laggam Time are also in the fray this week. But, there is hardly hype for any of these films.

Additionally, Tamil dubbing film With Love, which stars Tourist Family director Abishan Jeevinth and Malayalam sensation Answara Ranjan in the lead roles, is also going to woo audiences this Friday. There are some re-releases as well in the form of Orange, Salaar, and 3. Overall, a spate of films will try to entertain moviegoers during this dull phase.

It would be interesting to see if any of these small budget films manage to garner positive reports and create some noise at the box office or not.
