Generally, it is a famous practice for the state government to appoint prominent actors and actresses as brand ambassador for certain sectors. For instance, we had Samantha as the Telangana handloom brand Ambassador back in the day.
On a similar note, the Karnataka government had appointed Tamannaah as the brand ambassador for Karnataka Soaps And Detergents Limited. This is a part of the famous Mysore sandal soap that is operated by the government in partnership with other entities.
However, immediately, after the government communicated the appointment of Tamannaah as the brand ambassador, there was a round of political debate happening on the same. This was primarily triggered by the Kannada imposition movement that is catching up in Karnataka.
Reacting to this official post from the concerned minister, a social media user posted “Why couldn’t they bring in someone who knows Kannada for the event? Why weren’t there any Kannada actresses?”
Another extremist social media user posted “Why is the anti-Kannada Congress govt ignoring Kannada actresses for Mysore Sandal Soap? They spent a massive ₹6.2 crore of public money on non-Kannada star Tamannaah Bhatia as brand ambassador for 2 years while Kannadigas’ pride gets sidelined.”
Well, there is a lot of opposition from the section of the public on this matter, the Karnataka government defended this decision by saying it is purely professional. They pointed out that Tamannaah is one of the popular actresses in the country and her image would further promote the brand value of the soaps.
