Vijay Sethupathi Explains How Star Cameos Are Misused

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has shared why he is no longer accepting cameo and guest roles in films, saying such appearances can sometimes affect his films as a lead hero. 

Vijay Sethypathi also admitted that some filmmakers are misusing the cameos and guest appearances marketing films as aggressively promoting his posters and teasers and giving a sense that he is playing the main character in such films, but audiences feel disappointed and cheated if they watch the films expecting Vijay Sethupathi in a full-length role in the films.

During a recent interaction, Vijay Sethupathi was asked whether working in critically acclaimed films, cameo roles, OTT series and television shows like Bigg Boss would impact his stardom.

Responding to the question, the actor said he has completely stopped doing cameo roles. However, he made an exception for Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 out of respect for the superstar.

“I have completely stopped doing cameos. The only exception is Jailer 2, which I did for Rajinikanth sir,” Vijay Sethupathi said.

Explaining his decision, he said that if his photo appears on the poster of Jailer 2, audiences will naturally focus on Rajinikanth. But in smaller films, producers often use his cameo role as a major marketing tool by putting his image on posters.

According to Vijay Sethupathi, this creates confusion among audiences and can affect the expectations surrounding the films in which he plays the lead role. His comments have now sparked discussions on social media, with many fans appreciating his honest and practical explanation. 

Vijay acted in films like Uppena, Michael. But he hasn’t accepted any other Telugu movies later as he has become quite choosy.
