It is already known that several fraudulent call centres that have been operating from India have come under the radar of the United States investigation authorities. The FBI has started to crack down on the same, and the repercussions are being felt.
Now the enforcement directorate of India has taken pretty solid action with regard to a particular fraudulent individual associated with call center fraud and the leading Telugu cities Hyderabad and Vizag also happen to be on the list.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Vikas Kumar Nimar, alias Misty, the alleged kingpin behind a multi-crore transnational fake call centre syndicate targeting US citizens.
Operating through fraudulent tech-support centres across cities like Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Lucknow, the syndicate impersonated officials and technical support staff to coerce victims into buying fake software services using gift cards.
According to ED investigators, the scammed funds were converted into cryptocurrency and laundered into Indian currency through shell businesses and informal channels, disguised as income from grocery trading.
