In a major revamp in US immigration policy, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order unveiling two new visa programs that aim to limit foreign immigrants’ access to the US while also attracting high-end talent and businesses at the same time. Trump took to Truth Social and made the announcement of the new “Trump Gold Card” visa program.
“Today we are proud to announce THE TRUMP GOLD CARD. The Card will be available for $1 Million Dollars for individuals, and $2 Million Dollars for Corporations,” the President wrote in his post. He went on to say that millions of “illegal aliens” poured into the US for far too long, and that the US Immigration System was broken. “It is beyond time that the American People, and American Taxpayers, are benefitting from our LEGAL Immigration System,” he added.
Trump further anticipated that THE TRUMP GOLD CARD will generate over $100 billion very quickly. “This money will be used for reducing Taxes, Pro Growth Projects, and paying down our Debt. Buy THE TRUMP GOLD CARD now: trumpcard.gov,” he concluded his post.
The $1M Trump Gold Card program is designed to admit only top-tier individuals who can significantly contribute to the American economy. On the other hand, businesses will have to shell out a whopping $2 million for the Gold Card. The Trump administration’s target is to raise over $100 billion for the US Treasury while allowing entry to highly skilled professionals who are capable of creating American jobs and businesses.
Meanwhile, the Trump Platinum Card is still pending congressional approval, and it will target ultra-wealthy individuals willing to invest $5 million. The Trump Platinum Card holders will be allowed to reside in the USA for up to 270 days a year without paying taxes on non-US income.
Historically, the employment-based green card program welcomed close to 281,000 people per year. Those individuals made an estimated earnings of $66,000 a year, and they were also five times more likely to go on government assistance programs.
Alongside the Trump Gold Card, the Trump government has also imposed a significant change to the H-1B visa system, allowing US companies to hire foreign workers in specialized fields like STEM and IT. A fee of $100,000 has been levied on the H-1B applications to reduce the overuse of the program.
