In a major move to turn Visakhapatnam into a top IT destination, the Andhra Pradesh government has given 21.16 acres of land to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for just 99 paise. This symbolic price is part of a strategy to attract big tech companies to the state.
The idea was first proposed by Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh during his visit to Tata Group headquarters in Mumbai in October 2024. He encouraged the company to consider Andhra for its next big tech campus. After several months of discussions between the state and TCS, the plan was finally approved by the state Cabinet.
Officials said the land price is a strong message to global IT companies that Andhra Pradesh is serious about becoming a tech hub. One official compared it to Gujarat’s famous “Sanand moment” when Tata Motors was given land for a low price by then CM Narendra Modi.
This project is expected to bring thousands of jobs and increase investments in the region. With this move, Andhra Pradesh hopes to become one of India’s leading IT states.
