Just four months into the Donald Trump administration, U.S. Vice President JD Vance has emerged as a prominent figure in the leadership team. Amid rising tensions over high tariffs, Vance has arrived in India for official talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There’s a lot of anticipation around this visit, especially because it marks the first trip to India for both JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, since the new administration began. The couple landed in Delhi earlier today, accompanied by their three children.
For those unaware, Usha Vance has Indian roots. Her family hails from Vadluru village in the erstwhile West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Though Usha was born in the United States, her parents migrated from this very village before settling abroad.
Given her visit to India, the villagers of Vadluru were hopeful that she would make a stop at her ancestral home. Unfortunately, due to the official nature of the trip, that won’t be happening.
Vice President Vance is scheduled to meet PM Modi later today. After that, the Vance family will visit historical sites in Jaipur and Agra before flying back to the U.S. on April 24.
Interestingly, the people of Vadluru had even performed special poojas for JD Vance’s victory in the recent election — prayers that proved successful. However, their wish to welcome Usha to their village will have to wait. Perhaps she will make time for a visit during a future trip.
