Former IT Minister K Taraka Ramarao has tweeted something really shocking.
“Telangana Govt has admitted twice in a week that IT sector jobs in Hyderabad have come down from 9.46 lakh jobs in 2023 to 9.39 lakh jobs in 2026 !! Shocking to say the least. They’ve stated this first in Governors address on 16th March and reiterated the same in yesterday’s Budget speech of Deputy CM. Wonder if this was an effect of AI or it’s just plain inefficient Congress administration,” he wrote on X.
Political rhetoric aside, it is shocking how there is a decline of jobs in IT in the last three years.
The jobs should have increased in the three years but they actually decreased from the 2023 levels.
That means the rate of losing jobs is higher than the new hires which is definitely alarming.
It seems to be clearly the impact of AI. Globally, we are hearing about layoffs and hiring freezes. They are happening in all big and small companies. Even the Global Giants are not averse to this situation.
India is a consumer-driven economy. The economy flourishes only when people spend money.
IT Jobs are the major forces as these people are with ample money in hands and they spend huge driving the economy.
That is the reason why cities like Hyderabad, the IT centers are major growth engines of the respective states.
If the IT Jobs market is not good, it will have a ripple effect on the entire economy.
The consumption comes down, the businesses depending on their consumption will suffer and the jobs such businesses create will suffer. When the overall economy is down, there will be little money to the Government and so, they have less to spend on welfare and development.
If this is the case already, the next 2-3 years will be even more worse. The AI will become even more rampant. More jobs will be lost for sure.
There is a recession looming large already because of the conditions in the West and the unrest in the Middle-East. Again our IT is dependent on the projects the West gives and most jobs are support jobs which are again prone to AI evolution.
So, it will be a very challenging situation for Hyderabad IT in the days to come.
