Something remarkable has happened in an Indian politics today as two sitting chief ministers are not just eradicated from their office, but also ended up losing their own legislative seats.
The two Chief ministers in discussion here are the outgoing CM of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
The interesting common factor between these two outgoing chief ministers is that they did not just end up losing the election in Tamil Nadu and Bengal, respectively but also lost as MLAs.
Stalin lost the election from Kothalur in Chennai city region and this happens to be the first time in last 40 years that he has lost the MLA position. He was defeated by a significant margin of 8000+ votes.
On the other hand, we have the case of Mamata Banerjee, who herself had a pathetic campaign in the Bhabanipur constituency in West Bengal.
The level of anti-incumbency that had built up against Stalin and Mamata Banerjee is so very strong that they have been eradicated from their respective offices and are also out of MLA positions now.
On the other hand, Kerala chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan also ended up narrowly surviving as an MLA as he to faced a significant setback in the assembly election.
