India’s top wrestlers have been on their month-long protest against MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh alleging sexual assault. The police today broke them up and detained in chaotic scenes.
Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and Vinesh Phogat were among those forcefully lifted from the protest site at Jantar Mantar. They were pushed into police vans.
Vinesh told reporters from the window of the police vehicle, ‘Welcome to the new country’. The new parliament building security clampdown is shown as the reason for clearing the protest site. Vinesh further said, ‘The accused is roaming free, He is being given shelter by the government and athletes who won medals for the country are now being put in jail for demanding justice for the country’s daughters.’
Earlier, police increased the security at Jantar Mantar following the protesting wrestlers’ call for a ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’ before the new Parliament Building on Sunday.
