World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma Breaks Multiple Records

It’s been a Hitman show all the way in Delhi tonight. Indian captain Rohit Sharma slaughtered Afghanistan’s bowling attack and set a platform for his team’s victory. While chasing a target of 273, Rohit started attacking the Afghan bowlers right from the beginning and scored a brisk century in just 63 balls.

Rohit’s early onslaught severely compromised Afghanistan’s prospects early in the chase. His partner in the opening, Ishan Kishan, provided substantial support, and together, they compiled an impressive 156-run partnership for the first wicket. Following Kishan’s departure, Rohit continued to scorch the field alongside Virat Kohli. It wasn’t until the 26th over when Rashid Khan finally managed to dismiss him. By that point, India had firmly established a favourable position to reach their target.

Rohit also etched his name into the record books with a series of remarkable achievements in this match. Here are those records:

  1. Rohit Sharma now holds the record for the fastest century (63 balls) by an Indian batsman in an ODI World Cup.
  2. Rohit has now smashed the most sixes in international cricket (555).
  3. He has surpassed Ricky Ponting’s record (30) and now ranks third in the list of most centuries in ODIs (31), with only Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli ahead of him.
  4. He now boasts the highest number of runs scored by an Indian batsman in the first powerplay in ODIs (76).
  5. Rohit also leads the chart for the most centuries in ODI World Cups (7).
  6. Rohit is not only the fastest Indian but also shares the title of the joint-fastest cricketer to reach 1000 runs in the World Cups.
