After having swept the T20 series against the visiting nation of England, the host nation, India made a positive start to the ODI series as well. Team India won the opening ODI match against England today by a comprehensive margin of four wickets while chasing the 249 runs target set by England.
While the start to the ODI series has been a fairly positive one, thanks to some mature batting from the youngsters like Shubhman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, there is one major cause of concern here.
Captain Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling to regain his lost form, has continued to struggle in this match as well. He got out for just two overs and even in that short period, he looked very shaky at the crease.
With the champions trophy starting in just over a month from now, this poor form of Rohit Sharma is going to be a huge cause of concern. Considering the fact that the tournament is being played in the United Arab Emirates, the experience of Rohit and game awareness will play a crucial role in India’s chances of winning the tournament on these tough pitches.
However, going by the recent form of Rohit and his latest performance today, things are not looking very positive. He really needs to find some sort of rhythm before the start of the champion tournament, and he will be getting a shot at it in the upcoming couple of ODI games against England in this series.
