Mumbai Indians Ruined: What Went Wrong?

Mumbai Indians is one of the champion sides in the history of IPL. The very fact that they have won 5 IPL titles over the years, clearly suggests the same. But anyone who is watching the current playing style of Mumbai will not even remotely reminisce the good old team. 

Mumbai Indians was built on the very foundation of loyalty and enrichment. This was nurtured and enhanced by the previous captain Rohit Sharma, who had excellent relationships with each and every player in the team. He is one of the most loved players in the dressing room and is particularly good with younger players. 

However, after the transition of the captaincy from Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya, it needs to be said that Mumbai is a side in the ruining. The good old spirit of collective cricket is no longer evident in the side. 

Rohit Sharma has become brother non-serious at the top, Surya Kumar Yadav has lost consistency, and Tilak Varma is blowing hot and cold. More importantly, the lack of overseas finisher like Kieron Pollard is overwhelmingly evident.  

There was once a time when Mumbai Indians, where a collective unit that were hard to comprehend. They were absolutely bulldozing other teams in the league and winning their way to championships and titles. This fighting spirit and Champion mentality is no longer the case with the side now.

Let alone champion mentality, there doesn’t appear to be too much camaraderie in the side either. The fact that Tilak Varma was retired out from the game in the previous game against Lucknow exposed the lack of trust in the squad. 

It is becoming overwhelmingly evident that the atmosphere in the dressing room is not fully positive, which is a mandatory requirement for champion teams. There was a lot of scepticism about the return of Hardik Pandya in the first place, and this is getting highlighted with every game now.

Hardik himself has been struggling with the bat, barring the 42 from 15 in last night’s game against RCB. But search preferences from Pandya have been few and far between. 

For a team to succeed consecutively, and go on to win championships, team bonding and collective execution is a must. But this isn’t even remotely the case wit Mumbai as they’ve already lost 4 out of the five games this season.
