India is one of the title favourites for the ongoing T20 World Cup and in accordance with this, they did not lose a single game in the group stages. However, India was delivered its first big shock as faced South Africa in the super 8 stage today.
As expected, South Africa gave India a tough fight and ultimately ended up defeating the host team. Subsequently, India registered the first defeat in the tournament in their own home ground.
Batting first South Africa scored an impressive 187 runs on what appeared to be a bowler friendly Ahmedabad surface. It was always going to be a tough for India, and this was exactly the case as the men in blue struggled right from the very first over.
India kept loosing wickets at consistent intervals and the pathetic form of Tilak Varma, Surya Kumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma did not help the fight. To make matters worse, even Ishaan Kishan, who has been in form in the recent games ended up failing in this crucial super 8 clash.
India got humbled by South Africa in the very first game of the knockout super 8 game. From now on every single game is going to be do or die match for India, and they will have to be on the top of their game to progress for the next stage.
