Generally, a score in excess of 200 is regarded as a reasonably safe avenue for most teams. But that is not even remotely the case in the ongoing season of IPL 2026 as 200 is virtually guaranteed every other game.
For instance, we have seen Punjab Kings chase down over 260 runs last week followed by SRH chasing down 242 runs against Mumbai which has Bumrah.
And last night, we witness done high profile chase between Delhi and Rajasthan. Delhi was able to successfully chase down the target of 225, that was set by Rajasthan.
We are seeing a clear pattern in the ongoing session of IPL as chases forward 200 runs are becoming a daily practice. Literally, every team is able to chase down the target in excess of 200 and even possibly 250.
On one hand, there are complaints that IPL is becoming a complete batsman dominant tournament. While on the other hand, there is a parallel argument that such high profile run chases are a good visual optic to the audience.
Whatever might be the outcome, IPL 2026, witnessing record number of chases in excess of 200 which is an interesting phenomenon.
