Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister of India has been rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in the afternoon today. Aged 63, the reason for her admission into the hospital is unknown as of now.

She was admitted into a private ward and her condition is being reported as stable and fine. The source, which asked for their identity to be kept private, informed Reuters, “Nothing serious. She is fine”. The Ministry of Finance did not respond to a Reuters request to comment. 

Born on 18th August 1959, Nirmala is the first full-time female Finance Minister of India. She did her BA in Economics from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, her MA and M.Phil in Economics from JNU and PhD from the London School of Economics. She was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh in 2014 by BJP.

In 2016, she was nominated to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. In 2017, she became only the second female Defence Minister of India after Indira Gandhi and in 2020 she presented her first budget as Finance Minister amid the covid chaos. She was also made the in-charge of the COVID-19 Economic Response Task Force.
