Shreyas Iyer is one of the most successful captains in the Indian Premier League. He won the IPL championship for Kolkata Knight Riders this year. Before that, he led the Delhi Capitals to playoffs multiple times. Even after winning a championship, KKR will most likely leave Iyer ahead of the mega auction.
Reports suggest that Iyer has been demanding a substantial retention fee from KKR, a sum the team is currently unwilling to allocate for him. Apart from winning the title, KKR also calculated Iyer’s performance for the team, his fitness history and current international status.
Considering these factors, the team management seems to have decided not to spend such a huge amount on him. However, it has to be seen if KKR used a Right To Match (RTM) card on him in the mega auction.
The reports say that KKR may also not retain star all-rounder Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc. The team seems to have decided to retain Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh ahead of the mega auction. The full list of team retentions will be out tomorrow.
