Long Queues For Fuel In AP: What’s The Main Reason?

Since the start of the conflict between Iran and the United States, there have been several theories and social media speculations about the shortage in supply of petrol and diesel across India. 

Despite the official communication from the Indian ministry of petroleum, there have been several apprehensions from the public about the supply. This is the reason why we are observing long queues outside the petrol station across the country. 

This situation got largely subsided recently when the authorities assured everyone of supply and the rush went down correspondingly. 

But again, the situation is back to square one in Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. We are observing long lines outside the petrol stations across the Telugu states.

This first happened in parts of Andhra Pradesh, including the Chittoor, Krishna, Guntur and Tirupati district, and it has now slowly shifted to Hyderabad.

Several petrol stations in Hyderabad city region witnessing long lines. People are turning up at petrol stations in big numbers to grab the available stock, despite the assurance from authorities. 

Andhra Pradesh chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu continuously monitoring the situation and has called for a complete overhaul by tomorrow morning. A similar approach is expected from Telangana government as well if the situation does not come under control.

The underlying issue, however, goes beyond panic buying or temporary demand spikes. The situation is being driven by a combination of supply chain coordination gaps, refinery-level distribution delays, and policy-related credit and procurement disputes between oil marketing companies and retail distributors.

Reportedly, Chandrababu also questioned this sudden policy shift and the resulting panic in the system, warning officials that the issue must be resolved within a day to avoid further public disruption.

Unless these structural bottlenecks, especially those linked to refinery output planning and credit settlement mechanisms are addressed on priority, such periodic shortages and public anxiety are likely to resurface despite adequate national fuel reserves.
