Janhvi Kapoor’s Mili is releasing soon in Hindi. This movie is an official remake of the Malayalam film Helen which garnered great appreciation for the lead actress Anna Ben. Now, with the Mili hitting screens, the makers have made ‘Helen’ ‘unavailable’ to watch on OTT. Also, the very famous Bangalore Days from 2014 is being made in Hindi as Yaariyan 2, the original is showing the same unavailable status on the OTT platform.
Global cinema came to our televisions and language is no longer a barrier, thanks to the pandemic time. People started watching all films in all languages and that is where many found the gems in Malayalam cinema. There are many films from Malayalam cinema that were remade and are in plans to remake in other languages. But the availability of the original on the OTT platforms is drawing comparisons to the remake and the flaws in the latter are appearing like sore thumbs. With this new trick, the remakers are making their film free from comparisons, and also those who have not watched the original might want to watch this in theaters. Earlier, there were many such films that were released and failed, just because the original was available on OTT.
