I Don’t Know: Is Karthi Frustrated About Kaithi 2’s Progress?

Kaithi released in 2019 with Karthi in the lead and Lokesh Kanagaraj as the director. The film became a big success and helped Lokesh grow in his career. The end credits also hinted at a sequel, and fans have been waiting ever since.

But Lokesh became busy with other major films. He worked with Vijay, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth, and also built the Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe, which started with Kaithi. Some reports earlier said he would start Kaithi 2 after completing Coolie, but even after Coolie, there is still no update.

Recently, Lokesh’s name was linked with a Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan multistarrer, though it may now go to Nelson. Aamir Khan also said he is in touch with Lokesh, and they may work together. New reports say Lokesh may do a film with Allu Arjun after Allu Arjun finishes his project with Atlee. So far, nothing is clear about Kaithi 2.

On the other hand, Karthi is busy with his own film lineup. After last year’s Meiyazhagan (released as Sathyam Sundaram in Telugu), he is now ready with Vaa Vaathiyar, releasing in Telugu as Annagaru Vostaru on December 12. He has been promoting the film in Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states.

During a media interaction in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Karthi spoke about his experience working on Annagaru Vostaru. When asked about Kaithi 2, he quickly said he has no update and does not know when it will happen. Earlier, he had said the sequel would happen soon. His new answer has made many wonder if he is frustrated with the slow progress.

Karthi’s upcoming films include Sardar 2, which has finished shooting, then Marshal, and later HIT 4 with director Sailesh Kolanu. For now, even the lead actor is waiting for news on Kaithi 2.
