One Dead, Four Injured As Mumbai Metro Pillar Collapses

One person died and four others were injured when a portion of a metro rail pillar near the Johnson & Johnson Company collapsed onto an autorickshaw and SUV in Mulund West on Saturday afternoon.

The autorickshaw was completely crushed while the a part of the car got crushed. The injured were shifted to nearby hospital.

According to reports, a cement segment of the pillar gave way during construction and crashed directly onto the autorickshaw moving in the route. The victims were passengers in the autorickshaw.

Officials said that a cement slab of the pillar collapsed and fell on the autorickshaw. On information, fire brigade and police personnel and staff of the firm constructing the metro rail route rushed to the place and are monitoring the relief operations. The 108 ambulance service personnel also reached the place.

The incident occurred around 12.20 pm near Pier P196 of Metro Line, close to Mulund fire station.
